Eagles edge Yellow Jackets to kick off season

Both teams were raring to go for their season opener in front of a crowded bleachers at Springhurst Elementary on Sept. 3. Host Dobbs Ferry built a two-goal first-half lead and was able to hold on for a 2-1 win over rival Hastings.

“It was critical for us to come out with a win, especially at home,” said new Dobbs Ferry coach Mark DeGaetano. “Hastings is a solid team. Our side is in a bit of a transitional phase with a lot of freshmen, so getting the three points to open the season was good for them to get this experience under them in this type of match.”
