‘Jaws of the Merman’ makes theatrical splash

In The Jaws of the Merman,” an immersive production presented by the River’s Edge Theater Company this month, the women of a small waterside village follow a mysterious injunction: No one is allowed to swim.

“It’s an old rule that everybody abides by, but nobody exactly knows why,” the show’s director, Meghan Covington of Ardsley, explained. “There's speculation — is it because of pollution in the water, or is it sea monsters? Is it because the currents are too strong? It’s kind of like this rule that people blindly follow without knowing why.”
