Less than a month into his tenure as executive director of the nonprofit Jazz Forum Arts, Darrian Douglas has landed
Before the sun rises over the Hudson and before most of Dobbs Ferry stirs for the day, Anthony Ficarrotta has already put in the work.
The Dobbs Ferry senior would head to the high school gym in the dark, the hum of the shooting machine his only company. Class at 8 a.m. meant arriving at 5:30, getting up hundreds of shots, driving home to shower, grabbing a quick bite, and then heading back to school. Those cold fall mornings and off-season workouts laid the groundwork for his pursuit of a record that had stood for more than four decades.
On Feb. 6, Ficarrotta’s early mornings turned into a historic night.
