‘Kakistocracy’ earns crown for spelling bee champs

A trio of residents from Kendal on Hudson in Sleepy Hollow wowed the audience during the Friends of the Irvington Library’s 13th annual Community-wide Spelling Bee at the Irvington Theater on Feb. 27, winning a contest so competitive that it nearly ran out of prepared words. The retirees won with the correct spelling of “kakistocracy,” defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “a government by the worst people.”
