Rivertowns mark milestone as U.S. turns 250
Wind whips the flag at the Sept. 11 memorial at Waterfront Park in Dobbs Ferry on the evening of July 3.

Two hundred and fifty years after the United States declared its independence, the Spirit of ‘76 contended with forces of nature more powerful than the British Empire of the 18th century.

From July 2–5, celebrations scheduled to mark that milestone were disrupted by a heatwave that yielded to a blustery thunderstorm on Independence Day.
