Story quilt fulfills its mission in the making

Connecting each of the 31 squares in the completed Ardsley Story Quilt is not simply thread, but also the shared love for the village and its community. After a year and a half of sewing, the quilt will be unveiled to the public on Sunday, Sept. 21, celebrating the project’s goal of embracing difference.

At the helm of the project is Sania Samad, a textile artist who is involved with the Ardsley Arts Commission. In 2023, Samad, who was born in Pakistan, felt moved to create a quilt in support of Palestine. After reaching out to Muslim religious leaders and village officials, she decided to transform the idea into a community project, in which Ardsley residents could find common ground amid divisiveness and be creative.
