HASTINGS — Sharon DeLevie — an entrepreneur, wife, mother of three, and, of late, grandmother of two — embodies the concept of tikkun olam, Hebrew for “repairing the world” and, in modern Judaism, a call to action.
DeLevie is board president of the Friends of the Hastings Public Library, a position she’s held for the past two years (she has been a board member for about six years). The Friends is a nonprofit group that raises funds to support programs and upgrades (like the new audiovisual equipment in the Orr Room) not covered by the Village budget. The organization has also been distributing children’s books in public spaces, such as laundromats, to provide more young people access to free reading materials.
