Volunteers of the Month: Docents and guides build aqueduct’s fanbase

On Walnut Street in Dobbs Ferry, along the Old Croton Aqueduct Trailway that stretches over a 41-mile underground tunnel that once carried clean water from Croton to Manhattan, the Keeper’s House stands as a hub for the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct (FOCA). 

FOCA is a nonprofit organization that consists of executive committee members, board members, 25 docents who provide information about the Aqueduct to Keeper’s House visitors on weekends, and six walking tour leaders. There is some overlap among the roles, which are all filled by volunteers.
