Ask the Dispatch: Is it safe to eat fish from the Hudson River?

Yes, you can eat (some) fish from the Hudson River, but it depends on who you are, the species of fish, and where it was caught, according to the New York State Department of Health (DOH). 

On April 1, the DOH released revised guidelines for eating fish caught in waterbodies statewide, including the Hudson. According to the DOH, “For the first time in 50 years, everyone in the family can now eat some fish from the Lower Hudson River (Rip Van Winkle Bridge in Catskill to the NYC Battery).”
