Beloved puppy turns 30, but never gets old

This May, author Alyssa Satin Capucilli of Hastings is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Biscuit, the playful yellow puppy who has taught countless children how to read.

What began as a single book in 1996 has grown into a series of more than 100, which have sold 54 million copies worldwide. For all of these books, Capucilli has worked with illustrator Pat Schories, who lived in Hastings before moving to Beacon. At the heart of each story is compassion, kindness, and “being good to each other,” Capucilli told the Dispatch.
